Because learning is a life-long journey

LET’S CONNECT

“Learn to make the best use of that limited time, plunge every day of your life into the spring which quenches and ever renews your thirst.”

A.G. Sertillanges

I wonder if we have anything in common? My journey through the American schooling system was meandering, to say the least. A little bit of history here, an excerpt of a great book there. A science class taught without connection to anything else in the world and a math lecture that may as well have been delivered by an alien from another planet. I recall looking at a painting for twenty minutes after lunch once a month and listening to musical composers every once in a while. I acquired a toolbox full of skills that would “get me into a good college” and “prepare me for the real world”. Meanwhile, I went to church on Sundays and youth group midweek, learning to organize the different parts of my life into a puzzle box. And then there was my grandmother, the woman who taught me how to fall in love with stories even though they didn’t seem to have any proper place in the framework of my formal education.

After my K-12 schooling, I attended college and came to view the world through a Christian lens. Some of those dividers in my mind began to fade as I made connections between faith and knowledge.

I didn’t find classical Christian education for another twenty years. I remember telling a friend shortly thereafter, “I think this is everything I never knew I was always looking for.” My journey since then has been a reformation and transformation. As both a homeschooling mother and classroom teacher, I’ve learned to delight in the mystery and beauty of God’s created world. I’m learning to see how all the pieces fit together to form one grand story.

Thankfully, I’ve come to understand that education is a life-long journey. And just because my arrival here was delayed , its never too late! My work today is focused on inviting others to join this classical Christian renewal. Good Way Education is the place where you’ll find resources to help guide you on your way. Consider it an REI of sorts for the soul-forming adventure that awaits!

About Me

I’ve been thinking about education for more than two decades, working in public, charter, Christian, classical Christian, and home school settings. I have a BA and MA in education from Biola University, and an Ed.S. in classical Christian school leadership from Gordon College. Captivated by the good, the true, and the beautiful, I seek to help students, families, and schools flourish. I am the wife to one adventurous husband, mother to three lively children and one lazy labradoodle, and faithful companion to good books, preferably alongside a square of dark chocolate and cup of peppermint tea.
